Welcome!
THE AUTHENTIC LANE is a positive psychology blog about discovering ourselves and improving our close relationships. The key is to learn to be MUCH more honest with each other than we’re used to being.
It takes courage to live authentically, but once you start doing it, you’ll realize how much better you feel about yourself and others.
Are you ready to learn how?
Personal growth is not always easy, but it’s worth the effort. People who take the time to learn more about themselves and their needs tend to have better success in life, have deeper relationships, and are generally more content as a result.
I hope this site will become a comfortable place for you to begin (or continue) your journey toward self-awareness. I’m glad you’re here!
Here are some of my goals for the blog:
To teach the purpose of emotions and how to manage them to best serve you.
To encourage and uplift you as you grow, and to promote healthy self-esteem.
To help increase your self-awareness and the understanding of others and their personality differences.
To encourage mature and healthy interactions and the creation of healthy boundaries in your relationships.
To foster peace and unity and reduce discord in your interactions with others, especially your loved ones, in order to improve the quality of your relationships.
To the extent that you have experienced personal suffering and trauma, to help promote healing and resilience.
To teach you how to move on from past wounds, allowing you to tap into your inner resources and strengths.
To encourage you to live your best life by helping you to find and use your authentic voice.
If that sounds good and you’re interested in learning more, read on!

About me…
Hi, I’m Elaine. I’ve spent a lifetime learning how to be true to myself, and open and honest with people around me. I’ve studied psychology and have benefited from psychotherapy at various times in my life when I was struggling. I turned to it for insight as I was going through a divorce, an outside perspective when raising my teenagers, and support for a long and exhausting stint of senior caregiving.
Therapy helped me so much that I wrote a book about it to help decrease the stigma surrounding going for help, and to encourage others to consider counseling for life’s rough patches. It’s called Need to Talk? Getting the Most from Therapy. I’m currently updating it to incorporate info about the most timely and effective mental health treatments, given all the recent advances in the field. I’ll let you know when it’s available.
I enjoy teaching others and I’d like to share some of my hard-won knowledge with you. I hope you’ll visit often.

When we think about the people we love the most, we often think about our family members, yet the love of friends is also central to our well-being.
